Units in Invert

Invert is fully unit-aware across the platform. Every metric, property, and formula carries its unit, and you can convert between compatible units at any time.

Supported units

Invert covers a wide range of units used in bioprocessing:

  • Temperature: °C, °F, K

  • Mass: g, kg, mg

  • Volume: L, mL, µL

  • Concentration: g/L, g/mL, mg/L, mg/dL

  • Pressure: bar, psi, mmHg

  • Flow rate: L/h, L/min, mL/h, mL/min, SLPM, m³/h, m³/min

  • Mass flow: g/h, g/min

  • Amount of substance: mol, mmol, µmol

  • Molar flow: mol/h, mol/min, mmol/h, mmol/min

  • Volumetric rate: mol/L/h, mol/L/min, mmol/L/h, mmol/L/min

  • Length: cm, µm

  • Area: cm²

  • Energy / Torque: kJ, mNm

  • Viscosity: cP

  • Conductivity: µS, mS/cm

  • Agitation: RPM

  • Cell count: CFU/kg, CFU/g, CFU/mg

  • Time: h, min

You can also type units manually—Invert recognizes hundreds of standard SI, imperial, and scientific units.

Converting units

  • Click the unit next to any metric in charts or tables

  • Select a compatible unit (only valid conversions are shown)

  • Values, axes, and tooltips update instantly

Conversions are display-only and apply per metric per view—your raw data stays unchanged.

Molar conversions

If a molar mass is defined, you can convert between mass and mole units:

  • g/L ⇄ mol/L, mmol/L, µmol/L, M, mM

  • g ⇄ mol, mmol, µmol

Set molar mass (in g/mol) in the Library to unlock these options.

Bioprocess-specific units

Invert includes domain-specific units like:

  • RPM (agitation)

  • vvm (gas flow per liquid volume)

  • pH (dimensionless)

  • CFU / BCFU (cell counts)

  • E6_cells (millions of cells)

  • SLPM / NLPM (gas flow)

  • cP (viscosity)

Flexible input

Invert automatically normalizes common variations:

  • Deg C, C → °C

  • Kg, kgs → kg

  • ml → mL

  • rpm → RPM

  • PSI → psi

  • cells → count

No need to clean unit labels before importing.

Built-in constants

Available directly in formulas:

  • Gas constant (R): 8.31451 Pa·m³/(K·mol)

  • O₂: 31.999 g/mol

  • CO₂: 44.01 g/mol

  • N₂: 28.0134 g/mol

  • Ar: 39.948 g/mol

  • NH₄: 18.03846 g/mol

  • Glucose: 180.156 g/mol

Time axis in charts

You can switch time display independently:

  • Days

  • Hours

  • Minutes

  • Seconds

Tips

  • Unit suggestions are always dimensionally compatible

  • Conversions never modify underlying data

  • You can type custom units directly

  • Setting molar mass unlocks more conversions
